Types of Abortion
Abortion is commonly understood induced abortion and it is defined in medical terms as miscarriage or induced termination of an embryo during pregnancy and thus causing its death.
Definitions in Medical Terms:
(1) Miscarriage or spontaneous abortion:
When miscarriage happens due to natural causes or
accident.
(2) Therapeutic Abortion:
Abortion carried out with the aim to protect woman’s life, physical or mental health. Abortion was performed, as there was a possibility of a child born with severe health risk or congenital disorders.
(3) Elective Abortion:
Abortion was carried out for any other reason not mentioned above.
Average Worldwide Statistics:
The average number of abortions per annum is approximately 46 million and the lifetime average of about approximate one abortion per woman. The number of average abortion in US alone is approximate 1.37 million. In developing countries more than 75% of total abortions have been reported.
Common Forms of Induced Abortion:
An induced abortion generally depends the gestation age of the fetus. Sometimes the preference of doctor or patient under these circumstances becomes the choice. Nearly three decades earlier the famous Roe V. wade decision granted abortion a legality in the U.S., the public debates is still continue over condemnation of abortion or abortion as choice.
Some of the common methods used for induced abortion includes surgical abortion, chemical abortion, abortion by herbs and abortion by force applied to abdomen.
The last two method of abortion should be avoided as these are the risky methods and may cause serious side effects and can harm to vital internal organs.
