Abortion is commonly understood induced abortion and it is defined in medical terms as miscarriage or induced termination of an embryo during pregnancy and thus causing its death.

(2) Therapeutic Abortion:

(3) Elective Abortion:
Abortion was carried out for any other reason not mentioned above.

The average number of abortions per annum is approximately 46 million and the lifetime average of about approximate one abortion per woman. The number of average abortion in US alone is approximate 1.37 million. In developing countries more than 75% of total abortions have been reported.
