System Shock!

Thirty five years of hosting The Price is Right and Bob Barker has now officially retired as the host. While some where skeptical (myself included) as to whether or not the show should continue "The Price is Right" did indeed begin its new season with its new host Drew Carey today October 15, 2007 and a new set. The set is now purple and gold instead of the red and green we are accustomed to seeing.

The first three games produced winners and the first showcase showdown produced 1.00 and a thousand dollar bonus for the first spinner on their first spin. The second half of the show was perfect as well. The second show case showdown produced another thousand dollar bonus. Having the first show go perfectly was an incredible way to start the season with the new host. This is a good start for the new host. Now the "Ladies do I have at least one number right?" question for the "One Away" game is asked to a sound effects person with a big ego.

It was a bit of a system shock to see the new set and new host, especially when Drew Carey did what Bob Barker always did and stalled when revealing if the contestants had won the prizes they longed for.

The same announcer Rich Field is in place so we have at least a familiar voice to describe the prizes being played for. It is just a bit unusual to have him announcer to a new host but in time we will adjust.

Will "Barker's Beauties" now be called "Carey's Beauties?" It doesn't have the same ring to it.

Drew Carey will take some adjusting to as the host due to not only the familiar voice of Bob Barker being in our heads but he seems to do things differently from what we are accustomed to. He threw in the spaying and neutering of pets message at the end.

It is going to take some time to adjust to the changes on the show. In time we will all adjust and those of us that can't remember anyone but Bob Barker ever hosting the show will start to think it is natural to see Drew Carey as the host. Our youngest children won't realize remember a time that Drew wasn't the host just like we didn't realize that Bob Barker was not originally the host.

Takeaways
  • Drew Carey is new host of "The Price is Right"
  • Spaying and nuetering announcement still included in show.
  • The show produced six winners from the games played.
