Review: a Shot at Love with Tila Tequila

I have to admit; I really don't spend much, if any, time on MySpace. I'm a 40-something-year old man ferchristsakes. Guys my age who haunt MySpace usually find themselves having a friendly chat with Chris Hanson on Dateline NBC's "To Catch a Predator". So when MTV announced they were airing a new TV dating reality show with MySpace superstar Tila Tequila, I really couldn't care less. It was when they announced it was television's first BISEXUAL dating reality show that my interest was piqued.

So I checked out the first episode of "A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila". Think "Flavor of Love", but not as classy. While Flavor Flav is not exactly known for his stunning good looks, at least he is somewhat famous as perhaps the best-known "hype man" in the hip hop music scene. Tila Tequila is best-known for having the most friends on MySpace and her appearance on another reality show, "Surviving Nugent", starring Ted Nugent, killer of small animals and sometime musician.

The first thing that caught my eye on this show, of course, was Tila Tequila herself. Holy crap on a stick, this chick is h-o-t! It's worth watching the show just to catch Tila in her slinky, revealing evening gowns and swim suits alone. But, of course, there is much more to the show than that.

Instead of watching a bunch of women fight for the affections of the show's star, ala "Flavor of Love", or a bunch of guys battling for dating supremacy, ala "I Love New York", we have both straight men AND lesbian women battling for Tila's affections. During the first episode, Tila parties with the men and eliminates five of them. After sending them home, she brings in the ladies and does the same.

After the first lightning round elimination, Tila is left with 11 men and 11 women. She invites both groups to a pool party the next day. It is only then that the men and women meet face to face, and Tila drops the show's bombshell: she is bisexual, and at the end of the show she will pick the best "person" for "a shot at love".
