Holidays are such an important part of each countries tradition along with supporting its culture. Some of the most popular holidays on earth either revolve around the Christian belief such as Easter and Christmas however there are other popular ones such as Independence Day, New Year Day, and Valentines and so on. Have you ever wondered what is going on around the world today?

It is quite interesting to hear about different cultures however I think it is even more so when you hear about the holidays that are celebrated each and everyday. A holiday can be as small as my birthday compared to Christmas being the largest holiday. Holidays express independence, celebration and/or a devotion to a certain cause that is important to that certain country. A holiday can tell a lot about the country that is celebrating it.

Here is what is going on today around the world:

1. United States:
*Boss Day: According to Holiday Insights, Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois, USA decided on her father's birthday to register this new holiday in honor of her boss, which just happened to be her father. Presents are usually given in honor of a good boss or in hopes to suck up to the boss for a new raise or promotion.

*Dictionary Day: This is the anniversary of Noah Webster's birth in 1758. It is a day that teachers are urged to teach their students the power of the word and to get involved with all things lexicographical.

*Ether Day: This is the day to celebrate the creation of the use of anesthesia (aka laughing gas) in surgical procedures. It is said to have been created by William Morton, Horace Wells, and Dr. Charles Jackson however William Morton patented the new product.

*National Feral Cat Day: This is a holiday created to raise the awareness of feral cats in American neighborhoods. It was started by an organization called Alley Cat Allies. This holiday is not celebrated by most people however in the animal science world it is known as the day of cat surgeries. Veterinarians around the nation book many cat surgeries to neuter or spay cats on this day, sometimes only for a minimal fee.

Very informative! This would be great for people researching the traditions and customs of other countries, too. Parents and homeschoolers and teachers should bookmark this one.
