As the days begin to grow colder, and the leaves begin to fall, many of us become excited because of the increased numbers of horror movies that will be shown on TV for Halloween. Most horror fans do not know that there are many great horror movies that they can watch for free online because they have entered the public domain. While there are many horror movies that are in the public domain, I have decided to note some of the best, and most memorable movies. If you are interested in seeing these movies, click on the name, and you will be taken right to the site so that you can enjoy the fears that may bubble to the surface.
Carnival of Souls (1962): There are many that consider Carnival of Souls as being a revolutionary movie that changed the future of horror movies for years. It is a very interesting movie that set the stage for psychological horror for many years to come. I was amazed to find this highly-artistic movie in the public domain.
Dementia 13 (1963): While this movie is usually credited to Roger Corman, it was actually written by Francis Ford Coppola. Any fan of Coppola or Corman has to see Dementia 13. It is surprising that this conglomeration made it into the public domain.
Blood Tide (1982): Blood Tide stars James Earl Jones. While this movie is not extremely scary, the idea of the movie is classic in which an archeologist travels to Greece, and unleashes an ancient horror. It is a great way for any classic horror fan to spend a few hours.
Horror Hotel/City of the Dead(1960): This is a movie that has dual names, depending on which country you watch it in. Christopher Lee once stated that this was one of his favorite movies of all time in which he acted.
The Atom Age Vampire(1960): While this movie is not very scary, it has a great sense of the European approach to horror in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The acting is surprisingly good for the horror films of the era. It is a must have for any public domain collection.
