When I worked outside my home, I often packed my own brown bag lunches. In fact, I packed lunches for the entire family. Not only did they save money, but homemade meals tasted better than what was served in the school cafeteria. They also beat vending machine food hands down. Read this informative article and learn seven tips how to make brown bag lunches more appealing to kids!

1. Let Your Kids Pack Their Own Lunches...
...under supervision, of course. Kids are more apt to eat the brown bags lunches they put together because, they only choose foods they like! Parents still have to say "Yes" and "No" to ensure noon-time meals are as healthy as possible. But, giving kids this freedom not only lessens the chances that their lunches will be traded. It also helps to teach them how to make good choices when it comes to food.

2. Help Them Create Lunch Themes
Another tip how to make brown bag lunches more appealing to kids is to create lunch themes. For example, let's say your child's favorite color is yellow. Then, how about a "Yellow Lunch Day"? Choices can include a cheese sandwich, lemon yogurt, a banana, a yellow apple, et cetera.

3. Let Your Kids Choose Foods at the Store
Here again, kids will be more likely to eat foods for lunches away from home they personally picked out at the grocery store.

4. Tired of the Same Old Square Sandwiches?
Then why not spruce up your kids' lunches by showing them how to make cookie cutter sandwiches? Cut the crusts off slices of bread. Then, allow them to cut shapes in the bread with cookie cutters. They can then assemble their sandwiches. Use the leftover crusts to make croutons. Freeze them until you're ready to use them.

5. Provide Them With Fun Lunch Containers
Let's face it: plain brown paper bags are rather boring. You can add stickers and drawings with colorful markers to make them more appealing to kids. You can also buy bags that have designs on them. Hot/cold food containers with their favorite cartoon characters, colorful plastic forks and spoons and the like can also make brown bag lunches more appealing!

I like the cookie cutter sandwiches idea. Sounds like fun. I'll probably end up doing that myself if I can manage to find a cookie cutter.
