Teddy Bear Picnic Birthday Party for Preschoolers

"If you go down to the woods today you're for sure a big surprise." Remember the lyrics to the Teddy Bear Picnic song? Surprise your preschooler with a birthday party based off this infamous song. Throw a picnic for your child and friends, both real and pretend, to celebrate your preschool child's birthday.

Invitations

Choose invitations to the birthday party with images of picnic baskets, outdoor themes, or even teddy bear shaped. If you are choosing an alternate location such as a park be sure to include directions and specifics as to where you will be meeting. Add clear instructions to the invitations that the children should bring along a favorite teddy bear or other stuffed animals friend for the picnic.

Decorations

Location plays a big part of this party which will save you spending too much time and money on decorations. Use your own back yard or a local park to host your child's teddy bear picnic. Set up a few large picnic blankets for children and their bears to play on.

Food

A teddy bear picnic needs picnic food, of course. Serve sandwiches, chips, cut up fruits and veggies, potato and pasta salad, Lemonade, and Kool-Aid. If you are having your party at a park it may be easier to serve cupcakes instead of a regular cake. If you do serve a regular cake and want to wow your guests, use the 3-D bear cake from Wilton.

Games and Activities

Provide a few extra bears available for children who forget their own. Have outdoor, picnic activities available for preschoolers to choose from set up through out the yard or park. Provide items that are usually played with outdoors or at picnics such as bubbles, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, hula hoops, and balls. A horse shoe or bean bag toss are more structured games that can be played by preschoolers. Go on a bear hunt. Have children pile all their animals together on a blanket. Have children stand around in a circle and then race to see who can find their bear the fastest.
