In most states the law says no sex offender can live within 1000 feet of a school or daycare. Every convicted sex offender must register with the state while on probation. Jail time is mandatory and based on the severity of the assault. And Megan's Law was signed by President Clinton to keep every offender registered with the state and keep each neighborhood notified. All of these laws are standard and each state can individually add stricter punishment, but few have. With these seemingly strict laws how are offenders finding holes and side stepping the system? Just like any law, it looks great printed on paper, but unless it is enforced it does no good for society. With unregistered sex offenders living next door and more sexual assaults happening everyday, it appears that these laws need to be re-established into each state and held to the same importance as laws against murder and armed robbery. Not only do sex offender laws need to be stricter, but they also need to be better enforced to ensure the future safety for children.

The vast majority of offenders will never commit another sex crime, yet from the actions of a handful, all offenders pay for their crimes, their families also end up paying as well. Thousands of offenders have families with children, yet these same laws "to protect children" do not include any sex offenders child from the harassment and bigotry / prejudice of th
