Reasons NOT to Get a Flu Shot

Flu Shot Could be Potentially Deadly in the Long Run

With everyone worrying about what sickness is going to hit big this season, one thing that is always at the top of most people's list is to avoid getting the flu. The most popular way to do this is to run out and get the flu vaccination shot. Although this is the most popular thing to do, it may not be the best for your overall health. Just like the old saying goes, would you jump off a bridge just because everyone else is doing it?

One of the biggest health concerns right now is the discovery of mercury in many things we use on a daily basis and in our children's toys. If this is such a concern, why then are people rushing out to put mercury in their systems? That's right, flu shots contain parts of mercury. Actually, flu shots contain ethylene glycol, phenol, formaldehyde, aluminum and mercury. Not sure what all that stuff is? Neither am I. So why would you want to purposely put it in your body?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the maximum allowable daily exposure to mercury is 0.1 microgram per kilogram of body weight. The vaccine for young babies called Fluzone contains 25 micrograms of mercury per 0.5 ml dose! Is this vaccination supposed to protect or poison our children?

Let's switch our attention over to the elderly now. There is a big push for the elderly to get flu shots to protect them from getting the influenza virus. But what about the long term effects of these shots? Or even the short term effects on someone who has a suppressed immune system? If you have a disease or sickness that is already lowering your body's ability to fight a virus, and you introduce the flu virus into your body through the shot, you have just put your body in danger of getting the full effects of the flu. In the elderly, this combination of factors could lead to a dangerous and possibly horrible end. Not only could the elderly end up with the flu, but now they are even more susceptible to pneumonia and other contagious diseases.

April, you are that person with a little knowledge that makes you dangerous. First of all, I think it is lead in children's toys, not mercury. I haven't had the flu since the mid 80's and have a flu shot every year. If you had a 24 hour flu bug, you did not have the influenza covered by the vaccine. There are many viruses out there and only 3 dangerous strains covered in the vaccine. People getting sick following a flu shot generally have a virus on board already. It happens. Thing is, no one who believes the flu vaccine is dangerous is going to change their minds and that's that. Probably should check out pro vaccine sites as well as anti vaccine sites to get a more unbiased viewpoint. It's true that we can fight off diseases ourselves but with all the mutations and super bugs out there, I want all the help I can get. I would hope that if the bird flu mutates into a strain that passes between people easily, you won't let your prejudice stand in the way of your getting

I am allergic to chicken eggs, so I can't get a flu shot for that reason as well.

I know several people who have had reactions to the flu shot. My own mom never had the flu for many years, and shortly after getting her first flu shot, she was very sick.

I never get a flu shot..I dont' trust it..rarely I get sick..the bottom line is wash the hands and don't touch your face with them..fortunately, I do work out of the home so I'm not in contact with the public a lot..excellent info!

Just to put in here...this IS VALID researech. You can find this info on many websites, magazine, and with talking to experts. These were sceintific studies. If you haven't done any of your own research yet...how would you even know?

I'm disabled with low resistance. I've had a few flu shots and have gotten mild to full blown flus the next day after each. Never again! The pneumonia shot is way more beneficial because more people die from it than the flu. I don't give a damn what researchers and doctors say. There's no way they're going to tell me I can't get the flu from it because I have!

Always keep our options open, I say! I don't get them either. Although some flu strains are indeed so dangerous that the entire population is at risk (1917 epidemic for example that hit mostly young men- and still no one knows why), most can be fought off by our own bodies, and we emerge stronger and more resistant on the other side.

Great article, April. As for the rating--don't worry about it. Apparently some who didn't agree with you clicked it to score as low as possible. I was considering getting the shot--for only the second time ever, but after reading this I won't be getting it. Alzheimer's runs in my family and I don't want to do anything to raise the risk. The only shot I ever took was when I was expecting my second child and the doctor said my four-year-old daughter and I should have the shot. I had mine first and it actually was so painful (don't know if it always is) that I refused to have it given to her. You made some very good points, and I appreciate it.

Lenetta~ Check out my interview about the shots you get as a baby: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/365253/autism_and_mercury_poisoning_a_first.html You might find this interesting too. Thanks for sharing your story!

Thanks for all of your support everyone! I'm not sure why my rating is down to a 1.7? To all those who are not leaving comments why they don't agree, it's your own choice to get one or not. But this information is factual. There's no need to drive it into the ground.
