Over 35,000 Americans die each year from the flu. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), is it important for women who are pregnant, those over the age of 50, those under the age of 5 (yet, over the age of 6 months), those living in a nursing home and/or have a chronic illness to get a flu immunization shot. Since the flu is highly contagious, it is recommended that home health care providers are also vaccinated. Although the cost for a flu shot can range from $18.00 - $35.00, some flu shots are free if you qualify. Many Philadelphia area employers also offer free flu shots as a part of their employees' benefits packages.

If you are in the Center City area, Philly Flu Shots - Concorde, Inc. at 1835 Market Street will have flu shots available on November 5, 2007. The flu shot cost is $22 and you need not make an appointment.

Additionally, there are several other agencies in Philadelphia that are committed to keeping the City healthy.

Starting October 15th, Philadelphia City Health centers will administer free Flu Immunization Shots. To qualify for these free flu immunization shots, you must be a Philadelphia City resident and child care provider or chronically ill and over 18 years old. If you know a child under the age of 19, have them get a flu shot from their primary doctor or at one of the health centers.
