My husband and I have been married for 5 years, and we each have two grown-and-gone children from previous marriages. I can't have anymore children and really wanted to have children with him. We decided to adopt a child that we could raise and love together. After months of discussion, we decided that our hearts were big enough to be able to love more than one adopted child. I immediately started researching sibling groups that we could adopt. We weren't being picky about race, but we were being picky about disabilities because we live so far away from the nearest hospital and the nearest doctor. As a matter of fact, it's 23 miles to the nearest grocery store. I was searching for a sibling group of 5 or less.

It took a long time and a lot of heartache because of being turned down for children we selected. We finally got a call from a caseworker who told us about the 11 year old and asked if we wanted to meet him. She indicated that he was multi-racial, born cocaine addicted and had behavior problems. We immediately said yes and couldn't wait to hear back from her. She then started telling us more about him. He had 4 other siblings, two sisters and two brothers. His oldest brother was also up for adoption although he had worse problems. All 4 of them were also born cocaine addicted. The 5 children had been adopted by a family one by one as they were born to the same mother and different fathers. How could this mother be allowed to continue having children? Anyway, their adoptive family abused all 5 children and the children were subsequently taken away from them. Their adoptive family signed a "Termination of parental rights" and then they became foster children.

This was and is such a wonderful story! Your boys are very blessed - they have the two of you, each other and all that land and fish! I applaud you for all you have done and that you keep working on it. It is so important to grow your own food and watch what the boys eat - I wish more people would do that. I am a firm believer of we are what we eat and grow and preserve most of our food too. It is wonderful to know exactly what is in what you are eating :-)

Good for you. The medication removal was a brave step but I am so glad you stuck to your guns. I got in trouble when I taught with a local doc that pushed Ritalin. A cup of coffee for hyperactive children worked as well with out damage to the blood vessles. Many of the meds allow the adults around the children to function better. These kids are so lucky you found them, and you are lucky too! What a wonderful feeling to know that your love is making the world better, one child at a time. Make that two at time.

These children are blessed to have you and your husband in their lives, but I'm sure the two of you feel the same about them as well. This was a very heartwarming story.

What an inspirational story. Kudos to you for adopting older boys and even bigger kudos for taking them off the meds. You and your husband are Earth Angels. Many blessings to you and your sons!

A recent comment of yours got me to go back and reread this. Hope things are going well. I'm an adoptive parent, too, of an older child :)

You're an angel. If most people had a fraction of your heart, the world would be a much better place.
