While looking into purchasing an HDTV, I did thorough research and came upon two possibilities of brands: Samsung and Sony. After visiting electronics stores and viewing both brands I decided on Samsung. The picture always just looked a little sharper to me in comparable sets. It's possible that this is because of the black border that surrounds the screen. When the television picture is contrasted against the black frame, it gives the appearance of a crisp picture.

I finally settled on the Samsung TX-R3079WH 30" Wide SlimFit HDTV with Built-In HD Tuner and ordered it online so that it could be shipped directly to my home. At 120 pounds, I did not want to carry this heavy set home. I had no problem setting up the television and within minutes had it connected to my HDTV cable DVR, my DVD player, and my auxillary stereo system.

For the first month I had no problems with the Samsung HD dlp television set. Then once it came time for March Madness, the NCAA basketball post-season tournament, I noticed my first problem. On the left side of the screen there was a faint green column. Because I was watching a basketball game the whole television screen was filled with a picture of the wooden basketball court. This was the first time I saw the screen filled with the same color (the color of the court floor). When you watch a movie or television program, the background of the screen is usually filled with many different colors. In the case of a sporting event, since you are viewing the same color all over the screen (green grass for football, white ice for hockey, etc)you are able to see where the screen is flawed.

My TV just died a couple days ago. I was watching TV and heard a loud pop, then the screen was completely blank. I am surprised this CRT had such a short lifespan. I did a lot of gaming on it and got a really bad "burn in" right in the middle of the screen. I wouldn't be surprised if I killed a Plasma with the amount of gaming I put on that TV, so it was very disappointing from a CRT. All of my other TVs are Samsung, as well as my computer monitor. I have been satisfied with the other TVs and have replaced the dead Samsung with my older Samsung. I will probably still be a Samsung fanboy, unless I start having problems with the others. Now I have to get rid of my 120 pound paperweight.

I am having the problems with my Samsung TX-R3079WH it will shut it self off every 5 minutes. Samsung will do nothing about it. The TV repair man said it is a defective picture tube and that he has seen over 20 cases of this just in PA alone. I want to file a class action lawsuit and recover my money. But I need people with the same problem to contact me so that my lawyer can file. If you are interested please email me at itdannyr@gmail.com

I'm looking into what it will take to file a class action lawsuit against Samsung for their defective TVs. I have a DLP and have seen so many comments on line about color wheels and lamps breaking constantly. I have been waiting for months for my color wheel order to come in because it has been on national back order since August of 07. Samsung does not want to admit that they sold defective products and are not doing anything to fix the issue. I am determined to make such an irresponsible manufacturer pay for their neglegance and indifference.

I owned mine for 16 months. I do not even use it 4 months out of the year. Turned it on last week - well, tried to turn it on. It all of a sudden does not get any power. I called Circuit City (where I will never shop again) and they were less than helpful. Both they and Samsung can go to hell.

I've had my Samsung for just over 2 years and it has completely died on me as well. I called Samsung and they said I'm on my own. I asked if this was a common problem and they simply said "No". Sounds like a bunch of crap to me. So now I'm debating whether or not pay for a service call to have it looked at? Even if they do fix it I'm afraid it may break again.

WOW! how correct you all are. My 3079 lasted seven months before it died. Samsung sent me to a local repair shop, to my surprise most of the models in his shop were Samsungs. He was the only one in Cincinnati that would even touch it. Finally rebuilt and returned to me working. Five months later out it goes again, this time no more warranty, no more help from Samsung, they say simply SORRY! That I am for buying anything Samsung. Class action lawsuit is a good idea!

The Samsung TX-R3079WH, as a product, is a disaster. The model has fatal design flaws that will inevitably lead to premature failure. If your unit is still working, just wait, it won't be for long. And if you think Samsung, the company, would do something about so egregious a lapse, you'd be wrong. Their position is that anyone foolish enough to purchase one of their products without an extended warranty deserves what they get. So be it. This fool has learned her $900 lesson. I will never again be Sam"stung".

I wonder if anyone has thought of a class action lawsuit??? I also have one of these TV's and it just went out and a co-worker had hers' go out just a few weeks ago, for the second time. When I called Samsung they said they couldn't do anything since my 1yr warranty had expired... what a load of crap. How can they get away with this??? anyone can get in contact with me at crappysamsung@bgphotographics.com

STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG TV's!!! I've owned this piece of junk for not quite two years, and it has required servicing four times already. The picture has gone out, the sound cuts in and out intermittently, and now it won't even turn on - no power at all. Despite this history of problems, Samsung is unwilling to provide any service. Also, the last time I had this unit in for service, the repair shop technician had FOUR other SAMSUNG TV's that had just been brought in to his shop. You guessed it - they were ALL model TX-R3079WH. The tech told me that 80% of his business is from Samsung junk and a large portion of that work is from this crappy model. Do yourself a favor and keep looking, unless you're in the market for a 120 pound paperweight. STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG TV's!!!
