Ever since I could remember I have always wanted to be a mom. I grew up being the oldest in my family plus out of all my cousins. I had plenty of practice since I was always put in charge.

The steps toward this career are simple. I started early on baby sitting my little sister then move on to babysitting neighborhood kids. I had so much fun getting PAID to play with kids.

By the time I was 17 I was hired by some local moms to baby sit weekly while they held bible studies at a near by home. I usually was in charge of 5 young children. During these times I would also talk to other stay at home moms. I learned so much from them.

One mother of the group was a homeschooling mom. I admired how well behaved her children were and how they could interact with adults and children! Another mom had a little girl was very polite, proper and gentle at the young age of 2. I prayed some day I could have a family like theirs.

I got married at the young age of 18. Just 2mts after getting married my husband & I went on a mission trip to Jamaica. We taught a week long bible school to children of all ages. Jamaica really opened my eyes. These children had so little and were so happy. The mothers who helped us lived in houses so tiny their kids had to bath in metal tubs. Yet they always had a smile on their face. By the time I came home I saw my home in a new light. I felt really blessed.

I had some practice at being a stay at home mom before I had my children. I cared for a little girl from the time she was about only 6wks old till she was almost a year. I kept her three times a week for almost 8hrs at a time. I was glad I had that practice. I learned what life would be like with a baby in the house.

The only real out of home work I have ever had was working at a day care. That lasted just a week then I learned I was going to become a mom. My wish was finally coming true!

My husband & I are now blessed with 3 children and I am homeschooling all 3 of them. I've been a stay at home mom for about 11yrs and a stay at home wife for 13.

Great article. I admire you being able to homeschool your children. The way the school systems are these days it is something I may consider doing when my child it old enough. I too also enjoy being fortunate to be able to stay home and enjoy all the special moments.
