Free influenza vaccines are offered by the Chicago Department of Public Health to all city of Chicago residents this 2007 flu season. The Chicago Health Department is not expecting a shortage of flu shots in Chicago as in years past. The healthy supply of flu shots will help the Chicago Public Health Department meet its goal of vaccinating as many adults as possible against the flu. The Chicago Department on Aging will assist the Chicago Public Health Department in getting the word out about the availability of the free Chicago flu shot. On October 18, 2007 officials from local government and their supporting organizations met to announce the Chicago free flu shot kick off and remind those at most risk about the effectiveness and importance of flu vaccination.

Over 100 places throughout Chicago offer the free flu shot from now through December 6, 2007. After that date only a few clinics will continue to offer the influenza vaccine. Residents can call the City of Chicago Helpline at 311 to find their nearest Chicago free flu shot location. Any resident who is interested can receive a free Chicago flu shot and those most at risk are strongly encouraged. Residents are asked to bring their Medicare card if they have one.
