As she sat by the window, waiting for his call, she looked out to the yard at what she once thought was "beautiful nature". But lately, nature wasn't so beautiful or fascinating anymore. Spring, summer, and fall were far more gray than winter lately. The falling snow started to annoyed her though, especially on this night; she used to love the rain more, but it just depressed her nowadays.

Ring. Ring. The phone's Caller ID didn't display the name or place of the call other than "OUT OF AREA," but a recognizable phone number appeared underneath. It was the call she'd been waiting for, but she hesitated to answer. She then picked up the receiver and pressed "Talk."

"Hello?" she answered.

But soon, there was a problem. The most disturbing sound anyone could possibly hear, the one she feared most, made a noise in her ear: the dial tone.

What?! How could this happen, she thought. "Dammit!" she yelled in anger. He hung up, thinking that she wouldn't answer. She then threw the receiver towards the wall, resulting in a loud banging sound, making a small dent in the wall and breaking off the phone's antenna. Her reluctance was to blame for the "tragedy".

But her mind soon pondered: Could he have gotten nervous? Upset? Angry? Sad? One of the four would most likely be deemed the culprit; there was no way she could have done anything to make him feel any of those things. He was such a sweetheart to her, and other people in general. His face lit up whenever he saw her though, which made her feel special, but ever more confused.

There was soon hope, though. The green LCD light blinking on the phone indicated that he indeed left a prompt voice-mail. She began to smile from ear to ear with glee as she called the voice-mail box, eager to listen to the sound of his voice. She didn't really pay attention to what he had to say, which were brief instructions to call back, but her confidence grew. She knew at that point she did nothing wrong. All she had to do to make it right was to return his call.
