The Saw franchise has found a new director for its fifth and sixth installment. The director is David Hackl, production designer on Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV. Hackl was one of the original choices to direct Saw IV until Darren Lynn Bousman decided to return to the series for one last time. He was also the 2nd unit director on Saw III and Saw IV.

"We have about a week to write the outline, then the script by the end of the month. We're really just throwing down the ideas now and it's coming together quickly," he says with a modicum of exuberance. "I've been with Darren on all of [the sequels], we've always arrived just before Christmas with a script that needed a lot of shakedown but, before shooting, [the script] is really tight. Right until the last days of filming we're always changing things and adjusting things just seeing what works as the story unfolds and I think that's why people like them - because we never let them rest. We don't go into pre-production with a white script and say, 'that's it no changes.' We push it so there's no holes."

According to the producers, it seems previous Saw series director Darren Lynn Bousman will keep an eye out on the next films.

"I'm talking to David about the story; we've been throwing it around. At this point, it looks like I'll be shooting the Scanners remake at the same time here in Toronto. I'm sure I'll oversee the Saw V script as James Wan and Leigh Whannell have done with parts two and three," says Saw II-IV director Darren Lynn Bousman.

Saw V and VI will be written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who also wrote Saw IV and the Feast series.

Rumor has it that both films will shoot back to back and skip October 2008 to take a year off. This isn't 100% confirmed yet.

So far Tobin Bell is signed for both films. It's unknown who else will return at the moment.

The Saw series has made over $222,463,734. The films are made on low budgets and are popular with the general audience and especially the horror crowd.

The latest sequel, Saw IV hits theatres October 26th.

I can't wait...to not waste my time on a sad tired franchise like this. Not scary and horribly written.

I really dont see the point for any more saw films. I mean it's an amazing series dont get me wrong, but how much more ground is there to cover. Hopefully Saw doesen't become an overdone and tedious series like the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

3 acted like a finale but there was so many clues for a fourth movie. Amanda's letter, Jigsaw's tape under the wax etc. Saw III was never going to the final film and Saw IV is the start of a new trigoly. Can't Wait!!

While some people think that the series should have been stopped at the 3rd one, I love these movies and am glad to see that there is a series! I don't think that the quality of the movies will decrease either. The 4th one should be very interesting, given how the 3rd ended.

Oh man! There is just no stopping this series! What, are they trying to outdo Friday The 13th in terms of sequels?
