When I was younger, my hair was my pride and joy. It was long and thick. No matter where I was, someone would complement my healthy, shiny, dark brown locks, and many people just wanted to touch it. Then the movie "Flashdance" came to the theaters and without blinking an eye, it was cut and permed to fit in with the changing times of "big hair" in the '80s. I still took pride in my hair, but the more I kept "the look", the more I damaged my favorite feature.

My hair is reaching the length I had as a teen, but only because I have begun to repeat the natural remedies I once used when there was not a split end to be found. The four treatments I am about to share with you may straighten a perm or strip any color you may have added, so I recommend that you do this prior to any artificial treatments you may want to enhance your style. I'm more of a natural, wash and go type, but an occasional color treatment always seems to make me feel extra beautiful. I will not do these treatments unless I am a week or two away from adding some color.

The following is a four-step treatment.

First, allow the natural oils to cover your scalp. This takes two or three days without washing your hair. Personally, this first step is a real challenge for me, but it is always well worth it by the end of my treatment.

After the natural oils have saturated your hair line, comb through your hair so all tangles are out. Take a jar of mayonnaise that you use specifically for this one purpose. It does not even need to be refrigerated. I keep mine in the cabinet under the bathroom sink. Spoon out about three scoops of the mayo and drop in onto the top of your head. Comb the creamy condiment into your hair until it is completely covering every strand on your head. Wrap your hair into a bun and sit in the sun for an hour or more. Be sure to wear an old t-shirt or something you don't mind ruining. The mayonnaise will begin to run down your face and onto your shoulders. It is not a pretty sight, but you won't be sorry when you are finished with all the steps to thick, healthy hair.

Isn't mayo made with eggs? In the 1950s "egg shampoo" was a big seller and I can not recall the last time I saw it on a shelf. I used to use mayo to shine plant leaves, but I do not know if I could use it on my hair.
