In part one we discussed all of the wonderful activities that you can do using apples as a lesson planning theme. If you missed the Awesome Apples Lesson Planning Ideas part one, you may want to check out this link.Felt Apple Number Game
Using felt, cut out 5 tree shapes, and glue them on a piece of card-stock. Number the pieces of card-stock from 1 to 5. Using red felt, cut out 15 apple shapes. Children can identify the number on one of the squares, and place the correct number of apples on the tree.
Apple Tasting
Gather red, green, and yellow apples. Remove the core, and slice them into thin pieces. Blindfold children and let them taste the apples. See if they can distinguish the difference in the taste of the apples.
Outdoor Apple Toss
Gather a few apples, and a large basket. Sit the basket a short distance away from where the children will be standing. Let them take turns trying to toss the apples into the basket.
Apple Coleslaw
You will need one large shredded apple, one head of shredded cabbage, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of mayonnaise, and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Let the children help you add all of the ingredients into a large bowl until combined. You can serve this to the children as a side dish with lunch.
Read the Book, Ten Apples Up On Top, By Dr. Seuss
This book can be a great way to introduce apples, and teach them how to count. Ten Apples Up On Top is written with simple rhymes that your kids are sure to enjoy.
Guess How Many Seeds Are in My Apple
After giving each child a turn to guess how many seeds are in the apple, slice it open, and count the number of seeds that you pull out.
Musical Apple
Have children sit in a circle with their feet crossed Indian style. Turn on some fast paced music, and have the kids pass the apple from child to child until you stop the music. To keep the game non-competitive, make sure that each child gets a turn to hold the apple, and pass out stickers when the game is over.
There are so many great activities that you can do when teaching your children about apples. I hope that you enjoy implementing some of these wonderful activities into your child's learning experiences.
