When a Child Has Charge Syndrome

When a baby is born with charge syndrome, many times they will be at risk for death from their server birth defects. The defects that are life threatening many times affect the patient's breathing and their heart as. In addition the patient will generally have problems swallowing. The charge patient will normally undergo many surgeries for their various conditions. In addition to heart and breathing problems those with charge syndrome commonly experience loss of hearing, and vision as well.
The term "charge" is derived from the meaning behind each letter in the word. The letter "c" stands for coloboma eye, "h" for heart defects that may be present, "a" for atresia of the choanae, "r" for retardation of normal growth, "g" for genital abnormalities, and "e" for the abnormalities of the ear that are present.
The ear formation in a child with charge syndrome is that of a short ear that is wide and the earlobe is not extended or only slightly extended. There is usually hearing loss in the child as a result abnomalities of their ears. Boys may experience undescended testes and smaller than usual penises. Both girls and boys may have abnormalities of their urinary tract and kidneys.
Charge children are many times able to exceed their expectations. They tend to have some delay in development that is believed to be as a result of hearing and vision issues. However, a percentage of children with charge are mentally retaded as a result of abnormalities in their brain.
Children with charge syndrome will require a teacher who can understand their special needs as they go through school. These children can overcome their many challenges in many instances.
