When I found out I was pregnant, I received many tips from my child bearing friends on purchasing maternity clothes on a budget. But by far the best advice I have ever received was to shop at Old Navy stores and oldnavy.com. Old Navy stores have popped up everywhere around the Chicagoland area, however, only certain stores have a maternity department. Be sure to call first or check on-line before visiting your local store.

Upon arriving at the Old Navy in Downers Grove, Illinois, I was immediately drawn to the sale rack and carefully sifted through the merchandise. Right away, I found a long sleeved burgundy tie back top with a scooped and gathered neckline. This 100 % cotton blouse retailed for $19.50 but was on sale for $8.99. Moving right along, I came across an adorable blue cotton, butterfly print hoody with a v-neck, also originally priced at $19.50 and now also on sale for just $8.99.

Keep in mind that these items were for fall and winter and I was shopping in September with a due date of February. So, these clothes were not only season appropriate, but could be utilized throughout my entire pregnancy! I later learned that since products move quite quickly in Old Navy stores, newer items are frequently marked down within weeks of their arrival.

Next, I discovered a table layered with half priced sweaters. These plush pull-overs came in colors of green, red, pink and purple and had an original price tag of $29.50. They were now just $15.00 each. They also had a display of classy cardigan sets in soft pastel hues for less than $20.00 a piece.

I moved on to pants and soon uncovered several shades of comfy khakis also on the sale rack. These cargo-style slacks have three zippered pockets and one pocket that snaps. They also have a double thick waistband that fits underneath the belly allowing for ample stretch-ability throughout one's pregnancy. Options included: beige, gray and brown. Previously marked at $32.50, these pants were now available for only $15.99. Such a deal!
