I first heard about this presidential candidate calculator from a progressive email list called A2SW (Act to Stop War). This is an email list out of Omaha, Nebraska. It surprised me that the presidential candidate calculator is on a website for all things military.
When I used the presidential candidate calculator, I was not surprised by the responses. My top match was not one of the front runners but Dennis Kucinch. I liked him in 2004 also. Hillary Clinton was in the top tier but Joseph Biden, John Edwards, and Barak Obama were further down the list. The presidential candidates higher than them were also Democrats. I think this presidential candidate calculator could be a good first step in learning about all the presidential candidates and not just the top ones. I am tempted to look up more information on the presidential candidates that do seem to be a good match for me.
I know that some sites I can go to for that are:
Project Vote Smart
The New York Times
The Washington Post
CNN
The top Republican presidential candidate that fit my viewpoints was Ron Paul. He and I agreed about 50% of the time. When I learned that he had Libertarian leanings, I was not surprised. I wouldn't mind a small military and a balanced federal budget.
The presidential candidate calculator can be found at VAJoe.com.
CNN mentioned the presidential candidate calculator in September on their political news show, The Situation Room. This hard hitting news show mentions that there is no scientific value to the calculator. VAJoe.com also mentions that. Still, over 200,000 people used the calculator by September 20th.
One of the Democratic presidential candidates, Mike Gravel, has used the results in his emails. It appears that many people, when using the presidential candidate calculator, have seen him as ideal.
