When you go out on dates or parties with friends and acquaintances, you would never in a million years expect to be violated. But it happens more often than you might realize. Before the hypnotic drugs became a popular tool to perpetrate a date rape, alcohol was the drug of choice. You may remember you parents telling you not to drink too much and lose your senses. Now there is a lot more to worry about than alcohol. Now you have to worry about being slipped a "mickey" in your drink, such as GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate), Rohypnol and Ketamine Hydrochloride.

Sexual predators like using these drugs because they can easily slip the drug into a drink or in food. Date rape drugs are virtually undetectable. The victim will not taste the drug, nor will they be able to see it in their drink. The victim will have little or no memory of the sexual encounter, and will be virtually unconscious. The date rape drug could be used on males or females, but we normally hear of it used on the female sex. The drug acts quickly when in the blood stream of the victim, and makes the person very sexually responsive, yet she may have no memory of what transpired. She cannot consent to sex, because she isn't being able to make a choice-because she isn't even conscious of the encounter. The victim will not be aware she has been raped.

If you have a suspicion that you may have been assaulted in a date rape, it is important to make a police report and go to an emergency room. The date rape drugs leave the body fairly quickly, and the doctors have to be specifically looking for these drugs in order to find them in the blood. These predator-type drugs will not be found in any routine drug test. The only tell-tale sign that you might have been drugged is that you may have the feeling of being hung over the next day.

Another wonderful article. Am I glad my daughter is no longer a teenager or in her 20's anymore. Our world is getting crazier and crazier. When I work in the hositals I see 13 year old girls having babies.,, And the suggestion that 10 year old girls should take birth control pills--now I'm concerned about my granddaughter. Keep up your interesting articles.

Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) has a half-life of 18-24 hours, getting to an emergency room to have blood drawn is imperative to determining it's strength in the system and pinpointing when it was administered. Great write up!
