Days of Our Lives is the Best Soap Opera Ever

Daytime drama has never been the same since Ted and Betty Corday created the best soap opera of all time, Days of Our Lives, back in 1965. The writers for the popular soap opera may have changed over the past 42 years, but the love in the afternoon and the creatively twisted plots, have continued to keep Days of Our Lives fans tuning in. It All Began in Salem

Who would have imagined all the drama, love, heartbreak, and evil plotting that goes on in the fictional midwestern town of Salem, USA? The All-American town of Salem is the setting for Days of Our Lives, giving viewers a familiar, hometown feeling with a few twists. The Salem setting may appear normal, but the Days characters have lives filled with both everyday drama and extrordinary and often, unpredictable turns.

The Founding Families

Alice Horton (Frances Reed) is an original cast member from the 1965 debut of Days of Our Lives. As the matriarch of one of the founding families of Days, Alice Horton has seen it all in her 42-year tenure on the set of Days of Our Lives. The Hortons, the Bradys, and the evil DiMera clan have kept the show fresh throughout the years, often with inter-family courtships, love affairs, and DiMera feuds.

The Days of Our Lives founding famiies gave viewers characters who could be connected to one of the Salem families through birthright, marriage, or illegitimate affair. The complicated family trees in Salem have often also included the Kiriakis, Roberts, Deveraux, and Johnson names.

Supernatural Plots

One of the best things about Days of Our Lives is that in Salem, dead does not necessarily mean permanently dead. Characters on Days often rise from the dead and return. In fact, Jack Deveraux, pulled it off no less than three times. At last count, the evil plotter, Stefano DiMera, has appeared to have had nine lives, after a number of times that he was believed to be dead, only to later return.
