Have you ever been out in a public place and noticed a child acting out of control and the parent did nothing? Do you ever wonder why? Well I think that I just might have come up with the answer: parents are afraid to discipline their children. Some states in our country right now are so strict on how to discipline children that parents are allowed only ONE open handed swat to a childs behind. Any more than that is ABUSE. Now I know that there are a lot of you out there saying that hitting a child is not necessary and I don't disagree, however everyone is entitled to an opinion. This is mine: sometimes, if a child does not learn from anything but a smack on the rear, it is necessary, and sometimes ONE just isn't enough to let them know you mean business. Like I said though, more than once is abuse.

I have seen parents that let their kids run them right down into the ground because they cannot swat their child on the butt when needed without being in fear of being reported and possibly losing their child or children all together. Now granted some parents do get carried away, but why is it that those that do so are allowed to have more children after the previous ones have been taken away? Some states have a "second chance" law. That means that if you have lost your children before and you have more, you can keep them with no restrictions. Meaning that there isn't any supervision or counseling required. You can go on as if nothing had ever happened before. Granted, some of those given "second chances" do learn from their mistakes, however most of them do not and they do the same thing all over again. So do we owe the harsh laws on discipline to the parents who DIDN"T learn? We will probably never know but I wouldn't doubt it if they did.
