Every proposal- from the seemingly mundane to the outrageously romantic- is special because it is the moment when you audibly avow to spend the rest of your life with the one person you love more than any other. According to www.proposalstories.com, a recent survey stated that 80% of women thought that their proposal was "less romantic" than they had hoped for. Frankly, that figure isn't surprising since most little girls dream of Mr. Right (Prince Charming incarnate), the way he will eventually propose, and plan their dream wedding - all before they reach middle school. The proliferation of romantic comedies doesn't help matters either - any man can be as romantic as Cary Grant with two or three writers!

My proposal was simple, but sweet. My husband took me to our favorite restaurant, conveniently located across the street from the college dorm where we first met and fell in love, treated me to a spectacular meal and got down on one knee and asked to spend the rest of his life with me. It was not a scene out of Pride and Prejudice, but it was simple perfection.

Women can only imagine how stressful it is to propose - the pressure to be romantic when it is clearly something with which most men seem to struggle must be overwhelming. Therefore, here are a few tips and creative proposal ideas for anyone lost for ideas.

Find a special place. Take her to the place you first met, first kissed, your favorite restaurant or hangout, the location of your first date, anywhere that has special meaning for the two of you. When it shows that you really put thought into the location, she will feel incredibly special.

Treasure hunts can be tremendously romantic though they are a bit more work. Paste clues around the house or around town and meet her at the end with the ring. Make a trail of candles, rose petals, poems, or candies leading her to you.

If you're a little daring, try things like having your proposal painted on a billboard, written in the sky, written in a huge advertisement in the newspaper or on a radio station, sung by a barbershop quartet, etc. If your beloved embarrasses easily, these may be options you want to avoid.
