Rainforest Animal Lesson Plans: Games and Crafts

There are many animals that live in the rain forest. Your child or classroom will really love this subject. Here are some fun lesson plans to try out with your classroom or child.

Introduction

Ask the children what they know about the rain forest. Ask them what animals live there. You can also show them pictures of animals they may or may not know live there. I also like telling them about interesting facts and the levels of the rain forest. Make the introduction fun but
 educational.

Interactive story

Have your child or classroom sit in a big circle. Tell them that they are going to make up a story all about the animals that live in the rain forest. Have the first child start the story by saying three lines of the story that they make up. Then the next child goes and etc.

Rain forest animal masks

Your classroom or child will design their own mask. They will get a half of a paper plate with a string attached and eyes poked out. They may make any animal they have learned about. Some materials I like to use are feathers, glitter, beads, markers, and crayons. After they have decorated the mask punch a hole on each side of the mask. Attach string to both sides in a loop so that it ties onto the child's head.

Animal Play

Have your classroom or child come up with a play using the masks they made. This lets them be very creative. They can design the script as well as the actions. Then have them perform the play in front of you or the class. They will love designing their own stories. It is also fun to watch what they come up with.

Monkey bird race

Split children into two groups, one is the monkeys and the other are the birds. This is a race in which the birds have to flap their wings and the monkeys swing their arms. They run to a point then run back and tag the next person. The first team done wins!

Sidewalk chalk rain forest

Have your classroom or child go outside. Have them create their own rain forest by drawing things that belong there. They can draw animals, trees, or anything else that they have learned out.

These plans will be very fun for your children. They teach them about different animals while letting children have fun. So go ahead and try them out.
