"Grease" may be the King of high school musical movies, and the fan base devoted to the adventures of Danny, Sandy and the gang has steadily grown since the movie's release in 1978, prompting multiple revivals of the original stage show around the world, as well as the NBC reality tv show "You're The One That I Want." However, "Grease" fans may not be aware that there's a wealth of funny, lively, retro-flavored teen films in the same spirit as their beloved Rydell High classic! Here are three of the best. These movies may not have John Travolta's famous bad boy Danny or Olivia Newton-John's iconic good girl Sandy, but after spending a little time with any of the following cinema treasures, fans of the movie "Grease" just might find a new One That They Want. So, whether you or someone in your life is a "Grease" fan, check out these films for more fun along the lines of the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds.

Little Shop Of Horrors
Like "Grease," "Little Shop Of Horrors" is a comic musical romp set in an earlier time, with a love story at its heart. This hilarious film is based on a classic b-movie about a young employee in a florist shop who accidentally grows a man-eating plant while trying to impress the girl of his dreams. The adventures of geeky Seymour, his beloved Audrey, and their ravenous singing plant make for a fun, splashy movie with a score that makes the most of its palette of retro pop music styles. Although its humor is a bit more tongue in cheek than the humor in "Grease," "Little Shop Of Horrors" is a laugh out loud delight, thanks in large part to the comic skills of stars like Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and John Candy.

Takeaways
  • "Little Shop Of Horrors" is a musical packed with major comic talents, and a toe-tapping retro score
  • "American Graffiti" captures the appealing innocence of sock-hopping teens with delicacy and depth.
  • "Cry-Baby" takes the bad boy & good girl love story in a new direction, with plenty of rock'n'roll.
Did You Know?
"Little Shop Of Horrors" was directed by Frank Oz, who provided the voice and movement for the muppet Miss Piggy.

Cool article. I love Little Shop of Horrors. You should google "Greaser Babies" and watch that. It's really funny!

Alternate ending? This I have to see!

Great slant. I love to do these kind of articles myself. Maybe you should do something on sequels to movies like Grease and American Grafitti that didn't cut it.

I'm not a Grease FAN, but I do like. I am, however, a fan of Little Shop of Horrors! The ending of the stage play is quite different from the movie's ending (though I've heard that the movie has been released with the "alternate ending" which is the ending of the stage play.)
