President Bush: Thank You

To President Bush, I thank you. I am not a scholar; I am a mother. I am not a politician; I am a citizen. Though many around me debate how President Bush has led our country over the past two terms, I can only say, "President Bush, thank you." Though many continue to argue your successes and failures, policy mistakes, and speech slip-ups, I can only say one thing, "President Bush, thank you."

You see, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want to put aside the politics, congressional agendas, and political twists, turns, and spins. I only want to say one thing, and that is that I remember 9/11. I will always remember that fateful day when the entire world stood still, frozen in the ashes that spread across the nation as our worst fears were realized. Terrorists had attacked us and panic was rampant throughout the land.

More than that, I remember 9/12. I remember how the nation was glued to their television screens trying to make sense of what happened. I remember the following weeks that ensued, and how depression, fear, and anxiety began creeping across the land. Mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers trying to make sense of an act so brutal that there was no reason to be found.

I remember when the announcement was made that Bin Laden led the terrorist plot and that our nation had been targeted, and we as a country, for the first time in my life began to look at the words, "united" in new meaning. President Bush, we were afraid. We were scared. We were petrified. Many of us feared to go the malls, feared that there would be no future for our children. You see, I remember what it was like, when the country was afraid that anthrax was going to show up in mailboxes, and how the post office began to take unusually long delays in delivering people's mail. I remember the talk of needing to beef up security, to change policy, to implement new programs to keep our country safe. President Bush, I thank you.

Coach Fran, Obviously she doesn't want to address the current issues because THAT ISN'T WHAT THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT! Read the second paragraph...and get a profile for God's sake and man up, don't be a coward and hide behind your mystery profile. Geez, what is it with you people...are you all from outer space?

Posted on 03/30/2008 at 2:03:14 PM

Biscuits the dog...go fetch the truth...you don't know what you're talking about...as usual another mystery profiler bites the dust!

Charisse, it is obvious that these people don't know how to read and apparently they can't get thier profiles together either because when one goes to click on it, there isn't one available to comment privately. Bunch of stinking cowards is what I say. Sksg, has his/her pants in a bunch. Obviouisly, you struck a nerve and as such these people must believe what you are saying or they wouldn't be so darned upset about it. AGAIN..PEOPLE...read her second paragraph and get a clue!

sksg, are you a coward? Where is your profile? If you're going to talk the talk then walk the walk...show us your face little one.

Finally! Someone who is publishing an article about thanking our president instead of bashing him. I get really annoyed at the "Bush lied, kids died" crowd who are loud and proud but can't defend any of their rhetoric. Try to call them on it (something like "What did he lie about?") and they either get all flustered and scurry away like rats or their protests get louder to try and drown out anyone who dares question them. Now I'm not saying that I support everything Bush does; I have been critical of him on several issues (his immigration policies, for one). But I believe he has done right by us by taking measures to better protect us after 9/11. And screw all those idiots out there who say we deserved what happened to us on 9/11 and all those lefties who compare Bush to Hitler(?!?) but make excuses for Saddam, Castro, and their ilk.

I think coach fran is a good example of why we cannot win a war in the modern media age.

Coach Fran. It sounds like you need more fiber in your diet. Try more grain, fruit and green leafy veggies. How about a good old piece of Texas farm raised beef? Making fun of people from the south to "try" to bring home your ranting point, is as back woods as it gets. You should be ashamed of yourself for speaking to people that way. You are no expert on peace and you're no coach, just a left winged nut. Boring, boring, boring. I can hear all that on CNN. Blah, Blah, Blah.

Hi Fran, My article addresses 9/11 solely because that is what I thank the President for. I am not addressing any other issues and I made that perfectly clear in the second paragraph of my article. Maybe you aren't thankful that we haven't had another terrorist attack in America, but I am- point blank. That's the purpose of my article.

(continued from previous) How about the vastly large and still widening per capita income gap between members of the American middle class, and the wealthy and how much larger that gap has become since our current president was inaugurated in January of 2001? Take all these things into account and you might start questioning whose allegiance this president and his administration has truly pledged to. But hey, if you prefer to see the rugged, good ol', just like you and me cowboy from Texas who eased your fears and smoked them terrorists out of their holes with his guns a' blarin to keep you safe from harm, you have fun then. And don't forget, vote Republican... after all, its what a true patriot would do, right?

(continued from previous) the lukewarm response to what he himself declared a national emergency in Louisiana, the head of the FBI officially stating broad misuse of electronic surveillance and the subsequent resignation of the top Justice Department official for his involvement, and lest we forget, the conveniently misplaced weapons of mass destruction the president so fervently told us posed an "imminent threat" to America and its allies. Do you ever think about who truly benefits when our legislation is rewritten to give large tax breaks? Or when you appoint industry executives to regulatory positions? Or why, despite bipartisan opposition, the president vetoes a bill aimed at providing health care to children whos families don't quite qualify for Medicaid but aren't making enough to take out a private policy to pay the high costs of pharmaceutical drugs or expensive surgeries?

Charisse: your emotional appeal to anything but clear reason is confounding. Despite the fact that you feel President Bush personally held your hand in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, your article does little to address the current (and rather bleak) reality for this president whom you believe to be so whole-heartedly benevolent. For the majority of us who have moved on to November 2007, the picture is not so rosy. Any of the most current public opinion polls will make that reasonably clear. But consider this: have you ever once actually sat down and read up on the policies this administration has enacted? Policies concerning public health, policies on tax reformation, on the environment, and on the regulation of industry? And then, lets take a snapshot of some of the more notable Bush accomplishments of the past 7 years. You've got the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, the perjery and obstruction of justice convictions for a top White House aide, the lukewarm response to what he h

Dmb: I said what I said. Don't put words in my mouth. Your statements are your own. I'm not buying in, okay. No sell here, sorry. President Bush is my president and I support the message of our party. Whatever assumptions you wish to make regarding my opinions on specific details are only that - assumptions. I won't even get started on the whole Clinton debacle. In the end, I believe our country will be better served with a conservative running the show. Thanks for asking though.

The majority of our country is and always will be selfish and lazy. They recognized the reality of war on 9/12 and within a year fell right back into their mode of peace and safety. I think that the country is still in PTSD, and that is why they are focusing on everything else except the fact that if an idiot gets an office, we could have WWIII on our land!

How quickly people forget the images of terror in America! How quick to say that Bush is the terrorist, when his entire focus was on keeping this country safe from terrorists. How ungrateful Americans are as a nation, that not one person could stop and say, Thank you President Bush, you did something right. In six years, we did not have another attack!
