It is likely that the babies may be born sooner. You will probably grow bigger and gain more weight. You may even be on bed rest for a while.
Your nursery will change and your home will change. You will need two of everything. All of those names that you had always been thinking of may change now.
Having twins is a wonderful experience. However, it can also be stressful and tiring. Learning to management and deal with the extra duties is the key to surviving. And yes that is sometimes what it is- surviving.
In the beginning, do not be afraid to ask for extra help. Having two babies learning to develop a sleep pattern can leave both mom and dad with sleepless nights. You are recovering from a long pregnancy and may need reinforcements every now and then.
When family members come to visit, take advantage of it. In most cases they are there to see the babies and not visit with you. They want to help. While you have help, take a shower or a quick nap. It also may be a time to actually sit down and eat without interruption.
When both babies are calm or sleeping, take a break yourself. Your housework and chores can wait. Your health and sleep is important too. Diapers and dirty loads of clothing can seem to be endless. Throw a load in the washer and sit down.
Many agree with the when one does, do it to both method. In most cases this works. For example, if one baby wakes up for a feeding, wake the other one up as well. If one baby wants to sleep, try to wait until they are both ready. If you do not try to create a common schedule between the two, you may be changing and feeding all day long. Having twins is fun and great and special. However, it is an extra baby and therefore is extra time and extra work. It is also lots and lots of extra love.
