Traveling to New York: Plane, Train or Automobile?
What is the best way to travel to New York City? If you live several states away from New York City, than the answer is obvious: take a plane. But if you live near New York City, maybe between 1 and 2 hours
away, it's hard to decide what is the best way to travel to the city. Here, I will discuss the options and the pros and cons of each.
One option is to take the train. Even if you don't live near a train station, it might still be a good option. Try not to drive out of your way farther from the city to get to a train station. If you are just taking a day trip, this would be a good idea because you can leave your car at the train station.
One pro of taking the train is that it is much easier. If you hate driving, or even if you just get nervous driving in the city, a train is the way to go. Driving in the city is chaotic, especially for those who are used to driving in the suburbs and country. Even just getting there, you will have many obstacles when driving such as knowing what exits to take and traffic. Another pro of taking the train is that you don't have to worry about parking, something that is almost impossible in the city and costs money.
If you want to drive, there are some advantages. First of all, you can go whenever you like. You don't need to worry about making it in time for the next train or having to be really early. Also, if you are traveling a lot in the city, you can drive wherever you need to. You don't have to walk as much or take a taxi. Also, you won't have to pay for a train ticket which can be 20 dollars or so per person.
A disadvantage of driving is that you not only have to find a parking spot, but you usually have to pay. If you want to park in a garage, there is a fee. But, if you are driving with several other people, you can split the cost. With a train, the cost is per person. Even with gas, if you travel with several other people and someone doesn't mind driving, taking a car is a good option because it can be a lot cheaper.
Other options could be to take a bus or a taxi. These have about the same pros and cons as the train, except maybe a little cheaper or more expensive. Also, a train is a lot more comfortable. I would go for the train or a drive, though, as most people do.
