If you are considering the start of your own business, it is important to consider not only your passions and interests, but the potential for profits and losses. The hotel business is one that is expected to grow, significantly, in the next few years.

With advancing technology, many hotel owners are turning to internet marketing as the way in which to boost bookings, reservations and sales. To be successful with internet marketing, however, your hotel venture must be branded well and provide for a niche in the market that most other hotel chains do not offer.

When considering niche in the market or branding, hotel chains such as Motel 6 provide a great example. As a budget-conscious, clean and efficient hotel, you know exactly what to expect as a guest in their facility. In contrast, if you book at room at one of the Gaylord Hotel & Resort locations, your expectations will be far different.

Define your brand. What do you want your hotel to offer the visitors? As a new hotel owner, if you are not part of a franchise location in a larger chain of hotels, you may want to connect with other independent hotel owners who carry a similar interest.

For example, if your particular lodging will provide a Bed & Breakfast service, and you are independently owned, you may want to formulate or join a group of other Bed & Breakfast service providers to begin an internet marketing campaign.

Internet marketing has afforded the hotel business with a great opportunity to gather resources, gain exposure and create branding that is not forgettable. Because many new hotels, today, are not associated with a chain or large brand, finding your niche is important to your success.

In addition to linking with other like-kind lodging locations, your independent hotel may want to consider advertising contracts with online travel booking companies such as Expedia, Travel Zoo, Travelocity and even Hotels.com. In doing so, you can provide some additional exposure to your location.
