A local radio station here in Atlanta is on a mission to deliver 375,000 thank-you letters to every soldier deployed outside the United States before Thanksgiving. As a long-time listener of Q-100, I was immediately on board to join the Bert Show in their quest to make this happen. I am spreading the word to all because I believe this is a grand opportunity to send small tokens of appreciation to our troops who will not be home for the holidays.

As a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, I know first hand how good it feels to receive mail from home. Every day I looked forward to mail call and hearing from loved ones. Whether I was receiving the latest gossip, soap updates, or magazines and newspapers, I was happy to just have contact with the outside world. It felt good to know that I was not forgotten.

It's been 16 years since I was stationed in Hafar Al Batin, Saudia Arabia but I still have every single letter that was ever sent to me. That is how much it means to me and truthfully I still pull them out every now and then. One in particular that always comes to mind was a "Dear Soldier" letter that I received from a couple in Texas, Jessie and Maryann. Their letters and pictures were heartfelt and encouraging. They never had children but they were proud so many of us young adults were serving our country on their behalf.

The Bert Show's mission began a little over two weeks ago and it has taken on new life. Everyday the show receives offers of commitment for letters, storage facilities, and anything else that might be needed to get the job done. There has also been an outpouring of support from school systems, local businesses, and corporations. It warms my heart to know that there are still good people in the world and regardless of the way one may feel about the war, the support for the troops is there.

So how can you help? Just jot down a letter of thanks on an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper and drop it off at your local Atlanta area Taco Mac. The deadline for all submissions is October 26, 2007. For those that reside outside Georgia, please mail to:
