Significant parallels and overlaps exist between the teachings and practices of primal religions and the religions that developed later in the East (Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism) and West (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

Even though religions have progressed through the centuries, many profound similarities still exist among them.

One of the major similarities between primal religions and both Eastern and Western religions, include the belief that there is another dimension to life after death. Most Western religions lean toward a belief in a heaven and/or a hell, while many Eastern religions believe in a stage of reincarnation that one must go through in order to ultimately reach nirvana or paradise.
