Cell phones plans are becoming more competitive all the time. It seems as soon as you decide on one carriers plan along comes another with better plan with more features you have been looking for. In this article I discuss reasons why 2 year plans maybe the wrong way to go. Early termination charges
If you find a better plan you can't just leave without paying a penalty. Cell phone carriers want to lock you into a 2 year plan otherwise you would be changing plans all the time like we did for long distance carriers. Ads are meant to lure you away and offer such a good plan you don't mind paying a penalty. The carriers win and you lose. Plus the cost of new phones and transferring your number or having to get a new one. Guess what too if you had a shared plan you get charge early termination for each line.
Phone upgrade hassles
You settle on a phone and low and behold a new phone comes out that has some features you want. You can't just upgrade without buying the phone. You get a free upgrade after the 2 years but you want the phone now. With a new phone they will transfer your number okay but than you are out the money you spent for the other phone unless you got it free. If you change carriers you have to buy or get a new phone anyway.
Paying for minutes you never use
Not all carriers have roll-over minutes so you might end up paying for minutes you never use. The same goes for text and other features that you don't get your money's worth out of. Carriers are getting rich off of the consumer in offering services so we can always be just one phone call away.
