Bugs are icky enough, but with the discovery of the fact that they can carry all sorts of diseases, it’s a gamble just stepping outside to retrieve the morning paper without some sort of insect repellent. Forget sprays or creams, though. Avon makes an impressive bug repellent in a cloth that is easily wiped on arms, legs, neck and face to prevent bugs getting near you. It’s called Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus.

New research has developed better insect repellents than ever now but how do you know which ones work well, which ones can cause nervous problems and which ones simply fail to work at all? Well, I’ve tried several different insect repellents for outdoor use and Avon’s Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard is probably the best I’ve tried.

One thing I like about the Avon insect repellent is that it smells great. They have a scent called Gentle Breeze that smells like fresh laundry. The pre-moistened towelettes are easy to use. Remove one from the re-sealable packet and wipe over exposed skin areas to protect from bug bites.

Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus protects you and your family from mosquito bites but also guards against deer ticks, black flies, gnats, no-seeums, sand flies and biting midges. No matter how young or old, Avon Bug Guard Plus is suitable for any age. The formula makes your skin feel so soft, too.

Adults may need to use more than one towelette to cover all exposed areas. While using Avon Bug Guard, get a new towelette when the previous one feels as if it’s starting to get dry. Usually one towelette is sufficient for small children, two for adults. Reapply with a new towelette after two hours or after swimming. The package recommends not using more than 9 applications per day.

Although the package has a zipper top to open and shut, the towelettes can still tend to dry out if you keep them over long periods of time after initially opening, or if you leave them outside in the hot sun for hours.

I've just tried it for the first time. The blue color stains. It doesn't come off easily with soap and water (my hands are blue from applying it to everyone else), and there's a warning on the back that it could stain cotton as well as silk, nylon, plastics, leather, costume jewelry, and synthetic fibers.
