There are many great books in the Bible but my favorite book has to be Proverbs. The Bible is our example of how we should live and Proverbs is full of great tips and advice to follow as we go through life.

I encourage everybody to read Proverbs from beginning to end (as well as the rest of the Bible) but for now here are just nine of the best verses in Proverbs.

Proverbs 1:7. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
This verse was pretty interesting when I first read it. Many people might think the first step to being knowledgeable is to simply know God. But it isn't enough to just know God. It's not until you fear the Lord that your knowledge begins because that is when you acknowledge that God is who he says he is.

Proverbs 6:27. "Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?"
The best thing about Proverbs is all the great similes used to describe certain situations. This verse is actually about consequences for doing something bad and in this case the Bible is talking about adultery. Committing adultery and going unpunished is about as likely as scooping fire into your lap and not burning your clothes.

Proverbs 8:11. "For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her."
This verse is pretty self-explanatory. Proverbs talks about wisdom a ton; I wouldn't be surprised if it was the most used word in the book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 11:12. "Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion."
What a great simile. Women should be discreet, show prudence, whether it's the way they dress or the way they talk or anything else. Otherwise they are just a shiny ring in a pig's snout.

Proverbs 13:7. "One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth."

There are many Proverbs about money as well but this is the one I like the best. Many people waste money on things they don't need just to look rich or handsome and those people will end up poor. Don't waste your wealth on useless things.
