With the rise of technology and the popularity of the Internet, dating has become a revolution of point-and-click. Placing an ad in the personals is a thing of the past. There are innumerable sites specifically geared to finding you Mr. Right, or if you want, Mr. Right Now. The more prominent of these are Yahoo Personals, Match.com, Date.com, and Matchmaker.com. The dating industry is a lucrative one and these sites are no fools. Usually, there are fees involved to join, but you can sometimes look at profiles or test it out for free.

So, you're interested and want to get started? First, you need a profile. You should have at least one picture of yourself, but preferably more. You should be smiling, alone, and in focus. Be creative, as well as honest, with your profile.

All done? Now the fun part begins. You can search for your potential date with your criteria in mind and easy to enter. Typical criteria consists of age, location, goals in life, job, etc. This is a great way to avoid a good looking guy who lives with his mother and doesn't have a job. With online dating, you are free to be more choosy and not accept a date with the first guy who asks you out. Many of us feel flattered to be flirted with or asked out in real life, only to go on a date with someone who ends up being completely wrong for you. Internet dating is really more about convenience and criteria than chemical attraction.

Are you looking for Mr. Right? It can happen online, believe it or not. It happened for my then sixty-one year old mother and it can happen for you. Since my father died in 1989, my mother dated. She had four young children and never got any offers. I took it for granted that my mother never introduced a boyfriend to me for years. She didn't seem to have the slightest interest, but that wasn't entirely true. She was lonely. For ten years, she was a widow, raising her four kids and trying to keep up with the bills.

I met my husband on a site like this! Sounds cheesey, but we are blissfully happy and together close to 7 years.
