While we were staying at Carlin Cottage, in Larkhall, Scotland, we had an evening on our own and I was craving an Indian curry. We walked into town and the first curry house we came to was Handhi. The landlady at the bed and breakfast had suggested we go there as she had coupons for the restaurant.

We were the only customers at 6.25 p.m. and were seated immediately. While we were eating there were a few carry out orders taken.

The restaurant was elegant with white walls, with pictures on them, and black and white tiled floor. The tables and chairs were black too. The bar was to the left of the entrance.

Our server came over to take our drinks order and we got chatting to him. We hadn't been in an Indian restaurant in the U.K. for 20 years so we wanted to go through the menu with him. He was very knowledgeable and made suggestions depending on how hot we liked our food.

We ordered the pre-theater deal with a starter and main course for 9 pounds 95 ($20) each. Len chose a very hot shrimp dish and I went for the shrimp cocktail. I was very pleased with my choice because Len's mouth was on fire.

Next the server brought a food warmer and the night light candles to go under it so that our food would remain hot. I chose the lamb curry and Len decided on prawn curry. I had mild and Len had medium. We both asked for naan bread and received a dinner plate full of it.

Our server was such a nice guy and so was the Proprietor, Abid Mirza, who checked to see how we were doing. We told him that we had come 4,500 miles for his curry. He ended up sitting down and we felt like being with old friends.

Both Len and I only ate about half of our curries and hardly made a dent in the bread. It was really delicious and we knew that this hadn't come out of a packet.

I went to the bathroom and passed by a wall that had several certificates that were for the restaurant and the people that worked there. The ladies room was spotlessly clean.

Our server came back with a bowl of water with lemon slices and a towel to wash our hands.
