Christians Who Play in the Mud - when is it Time to Clean Up?

Some of us are clean freaks. Others are messies. Either way at some point in our life we need to determine if it's time to clean up our act. All folks who claim to be a Christian get themselves dirty from time to time. Some just get a little dust on
their feet. Others accidentally fall into a mud puddle. Others decide that they like the dirt and choose to dive into an ocean of scum and never come out.

Unfortunately, there is a huge misconception about how Christians should deal with the dirty saint. Many believe it's acceptable to kick them while they are down. Often compassion, mercy and love are never shown. That being said, I believe there is a trend in the community of believers today that is going in the opposite direction.

We are all feeling the pressures of the times, and are responding with a resounding, "is it worth the sacrifice?" I know there are those of you that have managed to escape this trap, and I applaud you, but please don't look down upon your brother or sister who may be struggling with this. You need to understand that in this day and age you are a minority if you have managed by the grace of God to not be affected by it.

This thing I am taking about is the overwhelming move toward carnality in the body of Christ. I know, because I have personally been moving in that direction, and have also talked to many strong men and women of God who are experiencing the same thing. The few of you who don't know what I'm talking about need to keep doing what ever you have been doing and pray for Gods mercy to keep you strong.

This state of affairs in the body of Christ is not a surprise to me because the bible talks about the struggles we will have as we get closer to the end times. I believe ( as many do ) that we are in the middle of those struggles. So, how do we get past this time of testing?

Be honest with yourself and God (1 John 1:5-7).

I needed some balance and inspiration today, having just read a most anti-Christian piece here on AC, one that is not merely conviction but degrading towards others. I don't know how you manage such a balance of conviction and acceptance without being mushy or overbearing, but I'm thankful you share this gift. Have a Happy New Year Kim!

Kim: Thank you for reminding us to "lighten up" on ourselves, and turn to God when we have strayed. As you said, we need to take inventory every once in awhile, and see where we are getting off track. This world is so full of bad influences, and after awhile, some of its craziness starts to seem normal to Christians. There has to be a balance between grace, and trying to live as the Lord wants us to. Great article!

Wonderful article, Kim. Thanks for the admonition.

Another great article, Kim! Wow you hit it right on the nose with "because you deserve it." We are a society of people with odd feelings of entitlement. Think of the Loreal commercials, "Because I'm worth it." It seems that nobody ever questions this kind of thinking..they just kind of agree, "Yeah, I AM worth it." Wonderful points! So many self-proclaimed Christians are incredibly not-Christ-like with respect to sinners (which we all are). Great read!

Actually it wasn't Mary of Magdala who washed Christ's feet - the woman who did that was never named, and Mary M. was mentioned in a previous verse so the Roman Catholic Church started calling her a prostitute by the late 4th Century. I think that "sinful woman" was not named because she could be any one of us. Kim, you make a lot of great points, as always.

Sammie, during Paul's time women sat on one side men on the other. The women would ask the men questions while the teacher was teaching which would cause disruption. Thats what Paul was referring to. This article was well written as always. Being a christian never means we are perfect far from it. We are just redeemed. We are as guilty of being a sinner as those who do not believe. Good article.

Kim, gifted words! I strongly believe in compassion to all - the bum on the street, the Hollywood star, our MIL, and that friend that seems to needle us. Love this piece!
