My Special Halloween Gifts
There is not really a lot of things I remember very well about her, but I do remember going to her house for Halloween like I just went yesterday. I don't really remember how old I was when she started the tradition, but I do remember it never stopped until the year when I was to old to go or just felt I was to go maybe.
When my brother Josh, my sister Julia, and I would go trick-or-treating we always looked out for each other and stayed together. We would go to some houses and they would give out pencils and others may give out big candy bars, but none compared to Aunt Eldrith.
I can remember being behind other kids waiting in line at her house and seeing her hand out candy from her basket. When we showed up after we told her who we were the costumes hid us well. She always told us to hold on. She would creep back in the hallway and get our "special" treats. One year I remember a wooden pumpkin basket filled with homemade candies. Another year I remember a wonderful homemade candy apple. The last thing I remember getting from her was wonderful, tasty, smooth candies. They were homemade of course.
She was my Papa's sister. I believe that may have been the reason why she made the special treats for us. Maybe it was because we always made it a point to wave and honk at her when we passed her house. She is gone now. She passed away a few years ago. It made me so sad. I still remember her visitation. She didn't look the same at all. Although, passing her house isn't the same anymore. She will never be sitting on the porch anymore so we can wave at her.
When I remember her, I know I will always remember Halloween. I still have all the things she gave to me. Looking at them, I will always remember her. For anyone else who has lost a loved one I'm sure you feel the same way. Everyone hopefully, has special memories about the people they love. I have got these to remember my Great Aunt Eldrith by.
