According to the World Health Organization, 56 percent of children in Latin America and in the Caribbean, 87 percent of children in South Asia, and 83 percent of children in the sub Saharan Africa are victims of being exposed to preventable health risks that are cause by unsafe nutrition, water, sanitation and household fuels.
The new study shows that if we start global efforts to save these children, almost 1.5 million children in sub Saharan Africa, 800,000 children in South Asia, and 50,000 children in Latin America as well as the Caribbean lives will be saved. Dr. Ezzati states that "Everyone needs clean water and good nutrition, it's not that the rich don't need it but that the poor end of the income spectrum has so many problems that dealing with any one of them can have many benefits."
The full report regarding efforts to save the lives of millions of children throughout the world is in the October 24 & 31 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association.
Other reports that will be included in the Journal of the American Medical Associationwill include related issues regarding successful programs for treating HIV/AIDS, programs that will deliver information on health and social services to those living in rural India, a study showing the good outcome of HIV infected African children who get substantial pediatric care, outreach efforts in Zimbabwe and China which include surgery in the care offered by physicians, and successful training of Chinese doctors when performing cataract surgery.
