My family and I recently tried out a new fast-casual restaurant near downtown Denver called Daphne's Greek Cafe. Before this year, I don't remember ever having Greek-style food before at buffets, casual eateries, or any other restaurant, but within the last 6 months I've noticed Greek salads popping up at several restaurants where we occasionally eat.

Since my hubby and I both have liked the Greek salads that we've had at the other restaurants, we were eager to check out the new-to-downtown-Denver Daphne's Greek Cafe as soon as we heard about its location in our city. Of course we knew next to nothing about Greek food except for those salads we'd had.

The style of Daphne's Greek Cafe is just like a fast food joint, in that you walk into the restaurant, stand around deciding what to order, then place your order at the same time that you pay. But Daphne's Greek Cafe is a bit different from regular fast food since you may be told to sit down and wait for your meal to be brought to you.

I ordered the Vegetarian Combo Plate at my visit to Daphne's Greek Cafe, which came with a Greek salad, rice pilaf, Tzatziki sauce, pita bread, Spanakopita, falafel, dolmas and hummus. Besides the salad, rice and pita bread, I knew what hummus was, but the rest of my Daphne's Greek Cafe vegetarian meal was quite mysterious for me. Even though I wasn't familiar with most of my meal, I thought everything tasted good, and, in fact, the newness of the taste of Greek cuisine was a nice change from, for instance, a burger and fries. I also liked how much food I received on my plate, and quite a variety. I was perfectly filled up at the meal's end.

For my 3-yr-old, I wasn't quite sure what to order, and I didn't see the words kids meal anywhere on the Daphne's Greek Cafe menu. But Daphne's Greek Cafe does indeed have food choices for kids under 12 called Smaller Appetites, which seems quite clever for a title. I ordered her the Kids Gyros which came with her choice of a side, in which we chose rice pilaf and pita bread.

Takeaways
  • A Greek fast-casual restaurant chain.
  • Mostly located in CA, but also now in AZ and CO.
  • Good food!

Erika, thanks for the great review. I may just have to check this out since I don't think it would be too far away from me!
