Conduit is a data backup solution for Linux that I am really excited about. We all have a ton of data on our computers, but it's not all in the same format. Some of it is office documents, such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. Other data we'd like to keep is in the form of images. Other data is short notes we've jotted down, while still more data is those hundreds of email addresses that seem to accumulate with little effort. While much of this data can easily be burned to CD, or simply uploaded to a storage website, the fact is that many people today use websites, both to show off what they have created, as well as to ensure that it will still be available to them, even on the off chance they have computer problems. Because we have managed to separate this data into different "streams," if you will, it's become important that we back up this data differently... to different websites, and to different places on our hard drive.
Conduit makes this possible.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I installed Conduit. Most of the backup solutions for Linux that I've encountered have been run solely via the command line, which I've never found all that user friendly. So I must admit to being a bit hesitant when I first tried out Conduit, but was happy that my fears were completely unfounded.
Conduit is incredibly easy to use, and better, it's very well-written and while there are certain tasks currently in the planning (but not yet implemented), I will be watching Conduit very carefully.
