Whether it's caused by wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, or any other disaster, what really happens when it's over with? When a week or two has gone by, a month after the event or even a year afterwards, what happens to the victims?

One thing I've noticed when a huge disaster happens in this country, this country, for the most part, can be pretty good at coming together. I do believe the citizens of America could do a better job of looking out for their fellow Americans, but at least right after a disaster happens, many will pull together to help the victims.

But have you ever noticed that the help only lasts for a short time? When disaster, such has the wildfires going on in California, people will flock to help the families who lost their homes. But what will happen to them when the wildfires are put out and they can go back to their property? Some families only live off of one income, while others may have two incomes, they still may have 3-4 children to care for. They have to provide food, new clothes...and now a new home.

I don't expect anyone to go out and buy a new house for each of these people who have lost their homes, but why not continue giving? Find a family who's lost everything and for a few months, send them gift cards for the grocery store, drop off clothes, tooth paste, tooth brushes or maybe even cook them a meal or two and bring it to them, or invite them into your home for dinner from time to time.

Each family after different disasters will have their own needs. It is up to the American citizens to try to help them get back on their feet. Not just right after the wildfires or whatever else the disaster was, but to continue supporting them. You may not be able to give much, perhaps you can only afford to cook them one meal, it doesn't matter. What matter's is that you are reaching out your hand to pull them up. You are opening up your arms to embrace them so that they know they will be ok.
