Marie Osmond Faints on Dancing with the Stars

Viewers of 'Dancing with the Stars' on Monday night got a lot more drama than they were expecting when contestant Marie Osmond fainted following her energetic samba routine. Osmond fainted while standing with her partner, Jonathan Roberts, to await the judges' critiques of their performance. Host Tom Bergeron quickly announced the show was going to a commercial break once he realized what had happened.

According to a phone interview Bergeron gave 'Good Morning America' on Tuesday morning, the audience initially thought that Osmond was just joking. "For just a beat," Bergeron said in his interview, "I thought as the audience did that she was kidding." He quickly realized that Osmond had actually fainted. According to Bergeron EMTs were on hand and responded immediately. Osmond came to after just a few seconds and according to Bergeron her first words after realizing what happened were, "Oh, crap."

When interviewed later that evening on the show Osmond explained, "Once in a while it happens to me when I'm winded. I'm really sorry." She then, in her trademark way, continued to make light of the situation and even referred to herself as 'Sleeping Beauty.' In Bergeron's interview he offerred up that Osmond was breathing very heavily after her routine and she held her breath to slow her breathing, thus causing her to pass out.

Whatever the cause of her fainting spell, Osmond is doing fine and she and her partner racked up three decent scores from the judges and avoided elimination. Osmond wanted to make it clear to the audience and her fans watching at home that it was nothing serious and that she's still in it to win.
