Louisville, Marquette and Georgetown: Big East Men's Hoops Preview

2007-2008 Men's College Basketball Big East Conference Preview

The Big East is definitely properly named, this conference is HUGE. Sixteen teams are in this conference and I am going to do my best to give at least a little justice to each of them. Without further ado, here's my Big East 2007-2008 college basketball predictions.

The Contenders:
Louisville - Derrick Character is the X-factor here and will get the minutes to prove he is a star in the making this year. Terrence Williams needs to improve his FG %, but Edgar Sosa and C David Padgett this team has plenty of weapons to be on the premiere teams in the country.

Marquette - They're all back. Dominic James could be the best player in the conference if he plays to his potential. With Jerel McNeal and SG Wesley Matthews accompanying him this Marquette team will be tough to defend.

Georgetown - I was fairly surprised Hibbert chose to come back and he will definitely be a force to be reckoned with, but they'll miss Jeff Green more than you might suspect. He gives them a big man most teams do not have and Jonathon Wallace can shoot lights out.

On the Bubble:
Connecticut - This team was just too young last year, but Calhoun usually does not let his teams lose very often. Look for Jeff Adrien to average a double double and be an all conference player. If big man Hasheem Thabeet develops, even almost as well as Hibbert, and Jerome Dyson plays to his potential they will excel.

Syracuse - Cuse is another team with lack of depth in the front court. That said they have a really solid 3-guard rotation that will keep them in contention. Plus they're a tough to play at home. Devendorf could contend for the Big East scoring title.

Notre Dame - Kurz and Harangody combine to be the most lethal front court in the Big East. Kyle McAlarney is underrated, as is this entire team. They could play March spoilers if people do not take them seriously.

We're not Half Bad:
Pittsburgh - This team lost a lot of talent, including Aaron Gray. It will be interesting to see if they can offset the losses. Levance Fields and Mike Cook will have to step up for this team to be in the same echelon as it was last year.
