An alert went out in the form of yet another toy recall, actually it was one of many. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in conjunction with Greenbrier International, Inc., issued a recall today for children's metal jewelry that's purpose is for wearing. The recall was voluntary. Those that have bought the product in the past few months should stop using them immediately, and if they are unsure if they are safe, they should check the SKU numbers given in the recall to see if they have one of the products in question. The phone number for the recall is listed below. If consumers determine that they do have one of the recalled products, then they should stop using them altogether.
The name of the product being recalled is the Beary Cute, Expressions, and Sassy & Chic Children's Metal Jewelry, and about 198,000 pieces were sold or distributed in the last few months by Greenbrier International, Inc. of Chesapeake, Virginia. The manufacturer is China. The reason for the recall is that it contains more than the allotted amount of lead in the paint, however, so far there have been no illnesses.
The recall involves several different pieces of jewelry with item numbers 855589, 873091, 873097, or 903950. These numbers are on the inside of the packaging. They contain high levels of lead. There have been no reports of injury as of yet.
The product was sold in retail stores, such as Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Express, and Greenbacks, across the country beginning in December 2005 and ending in July 2007. The product was sold for around one dollar. This is not the first time that China has had a problem with lead paint. It is becoming a constant issue with this particular country.
Those that purchased the jewelry should take the product away from their children immediately and take it back to the store where it was purchased. If you need more information you can call 800-876-8077 and talk to a Dollar Tree associate.
