The fact that businesses are online these days hasn't made brochures obsolete. In fact, many organizations and individuals running businesses from home have websites and brochures that match. Some people consider their websites a virtual brochure. Some create brochures with the bells and whistles of websites. Either way, it's a good idea to create a brochure as a companion piece to your website. You can always add your brochure to your website as a PDF or as a virtual turn-page brochure.

How to create brochures that stand out

If you're going to create a brochure, I recommend going with full-color. If that's not in your budget, be sure to create a brochure that's visually appealing. Unique graphics, an eye-catching layout, bold print and captions, great photography and white space between content are a must.

A brochure that stands out is one that a client or customer won't throw away. Such brochures can offer a built-in item that a person will want to save: useful information, gift certificates, coupons, a magnet, a bookmark, a calendar or any advertising specialty built right into the brochure. Not only will your brochure stand out, you can guarantee that a person won't want to throw it away.

How to create brochures with benefit statements

Benefit statements are powerful, descriptive commanding sentences with a promise, an advantage to your customer and something that will offer them a good change or improvement. Successful brochures offer benefit statements that allow the potential customer to feel as though they cannot pass up the opportunity you're offering.

When writing the content of your brochure, divide the content into short paragraphs with bold headlines that contain benefit statements. Think of how your product, service or event can benefit your customer. I suggest 3 to 5 benefit statements on each brochure panel or throughout the brochure.
