Are you addicted to your morning coffee? You may not be aware, but there are many negative effects of coffee on your body. Coffee increases stomach acid, chances of developing ulcers, aggravates diabetes, stimulates large intestine leading to diarrhea and many other not so wonderful side effects.

Before you grab that mug and pour your steaming caffeine fix, think about some other options. There are a lot of healthier choices for a morning drink. Not only are they better for you body and mind, but they will kick start your energy for a more positive day.

Tea
If you're like me, then the warm liquid on a morning throat is incredibly soothing. Just because you're giving up coffee, that doesn't mean you have to lose the heat.

There are many tea choices perfect for morning. Popular choices are Green Tea, Black Tea and Licorice Tea. Tea will still provide you with caffeine, containing half the amount you get with coffee. Tea will stimulate your body so that you still get a morning jolt but also provide you with large amounts of antioxidants.

Juice
You could choose to go the opposite route. A nice cold glass of juice can be very refreshing first thing in the morning. You're not limited to the typical orange juice. There are many healthy variety of juices to choose from.

Pomegranate juice contains three times the amount of antioxidants as a cup of green tea. It also works well as a blood thinner, so is excellent for circulation to the heart.

Carrot juice is loaded with fiber and potassium. It is loaded in sugar however, so it might not be a smart idea to have without a good breakfast or every day of the week. It is a great choice to change things up a little bit.

Cherry juice can help relieve several types of pain. If you suffer from arthritis, gout, muscle pain or back pain then think about enjoying a nice glass of Cherry juice. As with all other juices, it is loaded with antioxidants. It is also believed to help protect against colon cancer, stoke and heart attack.

I'm surprised you didn't mention chicory coffee. For some people it does have the stigma of being a "poverty coffee substitute," but it actually has health benefits. It's caffeine-free and helps cleanse the liver. Sure, it doesn't taste exactly like coffee, but the taste is similar--more "roasted" and smoother. Some people use a coffee-chicory blend to cut down on caffeine.

I like all of these... but I love my morning coffee. One cup is it for me, but I'm not giving it up! Good article.
